Uthman ibn Abi al-As RA

Uthman ibn Abi al-As RA was the youngest member of the delegation of Thaqif that came from Ta'if to Madinah in Ramadan of 9 AH to negotiate their entry into Islam. While the elders stayed in their tent bargaining, he accepted Islam ahead of the rest of the group. He spent his days outside the tent memorizing the Qur'an with the Prophet ﷺ and learning the religion from Abu Bakr RA, the most eager of them all. At Abu Bakr's suggestion, the Prophet ﷺ made him the leader of the delegation, young as he was. After the idol al-Lat was destroyed in Ta'if, its treasures were taken to the public treasury and distributed to the poor and needy. The Prophet ﷺ sent word to Uthman ibn Abi al-As to build a masjid where al-Lat had stood, and it was built there.
