Uqba ibn Amir RA was one of the first six men of the Khazraj of Yathrib who met the Prophet ﷺ at Aqaba in the pilgrimage season, about three years before the Hijrah, and accepted Islam. The six returned home and spread the message until the whole city had heard of it, and the next year Muslims of Yathrib returned to pledge allegiance, preparing the way for the Hijrah. He is a different man from Uqba ibn Amir al-Juhani RA, the later narrator of hadith, with whom he is sometimes confused.
