Thumamah ibn Uthal RA was the chieftain of the Banu Hanifah of al-Yamamah, who had threatened to kill the Prophet ﷺ before he was captured by a Muslim raiding party in 6 AH. The Prophet ﷺ had him tied in the Masjid, fed from his own household and invited to Islam for three days, then released him; Thumamah bathed and returned to declare that the Prophet ﷺ's face, religion and city had become the most beloved to him. He went on to perform umrah, entering Makkah with the Islamic talbiyah, and cut off the grain of al-Yamamah from the Quraysh until the Prophet ﷺ asked him to relent. Much of his tribe followed him into Islam, and in the Wars of Apostasy he fought against Musaylimah of his own tribe.
