Musaylimah, called al-Kadhdhab (the Liar), whose name was Maslamah ibn Habib, was an elderly leader of Banu Hanifah in al-Yamamah who claimed to share in prophethood. He came to Madinah with his tribe's delegation in 9 AH demanding to be made the Prophet ﷺ's successor, was refused even a palm stick, and afterwards wrote claiming half the earth. He tried to imitate the Qur'an with absurd verses. After the Prophet ﷺ's death his tribe became the most dangerous of the apostates, and he was killed at the Battle of al-Yamamah in 12 AH, struck by Wahshi's javelin and an Ansari's sword.
