Talha ibn Abi Talha was a man of Banu Abd al-Dar, the clan that carried the Quraysh standard. At Uhud in 3 AH he opened the battle with a challenge to single combat and was struck down by Ali ibn Abi Talib RA. Ibn Ishaq counts him among those Ali RA killed; another report says Ali RA spared him when he begged by the ties of kinship, and he died of his wounds.
