This unnamed man lived a generation or two after the Companions, when people had begun venerating a tree they believed was the tree of the Pledge of Ridwan and built a masjid beside it. When he mentioned it in Makkah, Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib said his own father had taken the pledge yet could not identify the tree, and asked whether these people knew better than the Companions. Umar RA is authentically reported to have had the tree cut down.
