Suwayd ibn al-Samit was a poet of the Aws of Yathrib who met the Prophet ﷺ on pilgrimage in the early Makkan years. After reciting his own fine poetry, he heard the Prophet ﷺ recite the Qur'an, was stunned and went home to reflect. He was killed that year in the war of Bu'ath before openly professing Islam, though his people were certain he died a Muslim.
