This unnamed man was a trusted servant of al-Abbas ibn Abd al-Muttalib. In 3 AH, as soon as the Quraysh army had left Makkah for Uhud, al-Abbas sent him to the Prophet ﷺ with a letter giving every detail of the army: its size, its horses and its weapons. Al-Abbas may have waited until the city was empty so that no one would notice. The servant rode as fast as he could and covered the distance to Madinah in three days, while the Quraysh took seven. He found the Prophet ﷺ at Quba and handed him the letter, which the Prophet ﷺ had Ubay ibn Ka'b RA read to him, telling Ubay to keep the news to himself.
