Salman al-Farisi RA

Salman al-Farisi RA was a Persian Companion whose search for the truth took him from Zoroastrianism to Islam. Born in Isfahan, the son of a fire-worshipping priest, he became a Christian and served a line of devout teachers in Syria, Mawsil, Nisibin and Amuriyah, the last of whom told him of a coming prophet who would emigrate to a land of palm trees. Betrayed by a caravan and sold into slavery, he was brought to Yathrib, where he recognized the Prophet ﷺ by the signs and accepted Islam. The Prophet ﷺ planted the palm seedlings that bought his freedom and paired him in brotherhood with Abu al-Darda' RA. Salman proposed the trench that decided the Battle of Khandaq in 5 AH, and some books say he lived to 120.
