Qusayy ibn Kilab was the Prophet ﷺ's great-great-great-grandfather, who lived around 400 CE and began the rise of the Quraysh. Marrying the daughter of the chieftain of Khuza'a, he succeeded him, gathered the clans of Fihr and took Makkah, founding its institutions: the council house of Dar al-Nadwa, the custodial offices of the Ka'bah, and hospitality for the pilgrims, providing them food, water and fire. He was the first to be buried in the graveyard of al-Hujun.
