Nuaym ibn Mas'ud RA

Nu'aym ibn Mas'ud RA was a man of the Bedouin tribe of Ghatafan who, by chance, had ties to Abu Sufyan, to the Banu Qurayzah and to the Prophet ﷺ. In 4 AH, still a pagan, he was paid by Abu Sufyan to frighten the Muslims out of the second meeting at Badr. During the siege of the Trench in 5 AH he secretly accepted Islam and, told by the Prophet ﷺ that "war is deception," sowed mistrust between the Qurayzah, the Quraysh and Ghatafan until their alliance collapsed, which together with a windstorm ended the siege. He later emigrated to Madinah, carried the banner of Ghatafan at the Conquest of Makkah, and was martyred at the Battle of the Camel in 36 AH.
