Malak al-Jibal, the Angel of the Mountains, came to the Prophet ﷺ after he was driven out of Ta'if in the years before the Hijrah. Al-Bukhari narrates that when the Prophet ﷺ reached Qarn al-Manazil, he looked up and saw a cloud shading him, and in it was Jibril AS. Jibril told him that his Lord had heard what his people had said to him and how they had rejected him, and had sent the Angel of the Mountains to do as he commanded. Then another voice greeted him with salam and said, "I am Malak al-Jibal. O Muhammad ﷺ, say what you want; I am at your disposal. If you want, I can squeeze this city between the two mountains." The Prophet ﷺ refused: "No. Rather, I hope Allah will extract from their progeny those who will eventually worship Him without associating partners with Him."
