Ka'b ibn Zuhayr RA was the most renowned Arab poet of his time, son of the great pre-Islamic poet Zuhayr ibn Abi Sulma and a man of the tribe of Muzayna. He wrote satire against the Muslims, crossing the line into vulgar verse about Muslim women. After the Conquest of Makkah his brother urged him to repent, and he came to Madinah unrecognized, took the Prophet ﷺ's hand and sought protection for "Ka'b ibn Zuhayr" before revealing himself. The Prophet ﷺ accepted him, and Ka'b recited Banat Su'ad, the original Qasidat al-Burda in praise of the Prophet ﷺ, for which it is said he was given the Prophet ﷺ's cloak. He became Umar RA's favourite poet.
