Isa ibn Maryam AS

Isa ibn Maryam AS is the Messiah, a messenger of Allah to Bani Israel, born miraculously to Maryam AS without a father, and a cousin of Yahya AS. He spoke from the cradle, raised the dead by Allah's permission, and was raised up by Allah when his people tried to kill him. He was the last prophet before the Prophet ﷺ, about 570 years earlier, and gave the glad tidings of a coming prophet named "Ahmad"; the Prophet ﷺ called himself "the glad news of my brother Isa." His followers were few but devoted, enduring persecution by the pagan Romans.

On the night of al-Isra wal-Mi'raj the Prophet ﷺ saw him praying among the prophets and met him with Yahya AS in the second heaven. Much of what the Prophet ﷺ taught about the end of time comes from Isa AS, who told of its signs: Muslims believe he will descend in al-Sham, kill the Dajjal, and pray for the destruction of Ya'juj and Ma'juj. He is present throughout the seerah, in the Prophet ﷺ's letter to the Najashi and in the revelation that answered the Christians of Najran.
