Hisham ibn Amr was one of the softer-hearted men of the Quraysh and a leading figure in ending the boycott of Banu Hashim before the Hijrah. He recruited Zuhayr ibn Abi Umayya, Mut'im ibn Adi, Abu al-Bukhturi and others, and at the Ka'bah, when Abu Jahl insisted they had all agreed to the pact, Hisham was the first to rise and deny it, followed by one man after another until public opinion had turned.
