Hiban ibn al-Ariqah was an archer among the confederates who besieged Madinah at the Battle of Khandaq in 5 AH. Ibn Ishaq names him as the man who shot Sa'd ibn Mu'adh RA, leader of the Aws, severing the vein of his arm, though another report names Abu Usamah al-Jushami. Aisha RA had seen Sa'd pass in a coat of mail so short that his forearm was exposed. As he shot, Hiban called out, "Take that from me, the son of al-Ariqah," and Sa'd answered, "May Allah make your face sweat in the Fire." Sa'd RA died of the wound after the siege of the Banu Qurayza.
