Hani' ibn Qabisah was an elder of Banu Shayban ibn Tha'laba, a tribe on the borders of Persia, whom the Prophet ﷺ approached with Abu Bakr RA in the last Makkan years seeking protection. Hani' answered that it would be hasty to change their religion after one meeting and without consulting their people, and the tribe added that their treaty with Kisra meant they could only protect him against Arabs. The Prophet ﷺ called their answer fair but said Allah's religion would be supported only by those who embraced it fully, and asked what they would say if Allah gave them Kisra's kingdom.
