Halimah al-Sa'diyah was the foster mother of the Prophet ﷺ, a poor woman of the desert tribe of Banu Sa'd ibn Bakr. Having found no other baby to nurse in Makkah, she took the orphan the other women had passed over, and her household was filled with blessings, so she kept him longer than the usual two years. She was the mother of al-Shayma'. After the opening of his chest when he was about four, she returned him to his mother Aminah. A weaker narration says she visited him after Hunayn, when he spread his shawl for her to sit on, and some books say she accepted Islam.
