This unnamed goldsmith of Banu Qaynuqa kept a shop in the tribe's market, the largest in Madinah, in 2 AH, not long after Badr. A woman of the Ansar who had sold her goods there sat before him to buy gold. He flirted with her and pressed her to uncover herself, and when she refused, he signaled to someone behind her, who fastened or pinned her garment so that when she stood, her clothes fell away. As the people around her laughed, she screamed for help. A Muslim man who was present drew his sword and killed the man responsible, and was himself killed by the men of Banu Qaynuqa. The incident led the Prophet ﷺ to declare the treaty with the tribe broken, and Banu Qaynuqa were besieged and expelled from Madinah.
