This unnamed woman of the Ansar went to the market of Banu Qaynuqa in 2 AH, soon after Badr, to sell some goods. With the money she wanted to buy gold, and she sat before a goldsmith. He flirted with her and asked her to uncover herself, and she refused. At his signal another man tampered with her garment from behind, so that when she stood up her clothes fell away. As the people around laughed at her, she screamed for help. A Muslim man who was present struck down the man responsible, and he in turn was killed by Banu Qaynuqa. The affair led the Prophet ﷺ to declare the treaty broken, besiege the tribe, and expel it from Madinah.
