This unnamed man of the Ansar was one of two men so old that the Prophet ﷺ told them to stay in Madinah and not fight at Uhud in 3 AH. He and al-Yaman, the father of Hudhayfah RA, sat among the women and children, but their iman got the better of them. Al-Yaman asked how long either of them had left to live anyway. His companion answered, "You are right. Let us go, and perhaps Allah will end our lives with a shahada." The two went out and reached the battlefield just as Khalid ibn al-Walid's counterattack threw the Muslims into chaos. In the confusion, Muslims who did not recognize al-Yaman killed him, despite Hudhayfah's cries that it was his father.
