This unnamed man was a cousin of Abdullah ibn al-Zab'ari, the poet of the Quraysh. When the Prophet ﷺ conquered Makkah in 8 AH, the two fled together to Najran. Within a few days, Ibn al-Zab'ari decided to accept Islam and began packing his belongings. His cousin asked, "Where are you going?" When told that Ibn al-Zab'ari had decided to become a Muslim, he protested, "We have come all the way here, and now you are going to abandon me all alone?" Ibn al-Zab'ari answered that he would not remain among a strange tribe when he could go back to his own kin, and to his cousin, the best of mankind. He returned to Makkah and embraced Islam, and his cousin stayed behind in Najran.
