Al-Muthanna ibn Harithah was the military leader of Banu Shayban ibn Tha'laba, on the borders of Persia, when the Prophet ﷺ and Abu Bakr RA sought his tribe's support before the Hijrah. He agreed with the elder Hani' ibn Qabisah not to be hasty, explaining that their treaty with Kisra meant they could support the Prophet ﷺ only against the Arabs. The Prophet ﷺ called their answer fair but said Allah's religion is supported only by those who embrace it completely.
