Al-Arqam ibn Abi al-Arqam RA was a young nobleman of Banu Makhzum and one of the first ten people to accept Islam. The Prophet ﷺ chose his house near Mount Safa as the secret meeting place of the early Muslims, since no one would suspect a Makhzumi youth of sheltering a man of Banu Hashim. Dar al-Arqam became the centre of the community, where Ammar ibn Yasir RA and Suhayb al-Rumi RA accepted Islam and where Umar ibn al-Khattab RA came to declare his faith.
