عَدْنان
Adnan was the ancestor of the Adnani Arabs, among them the Quraysh, and a descendant of Ismail AS through a line whose length is unknown; al-Tabari records opinions from seven to forty-one generations. The Prophet ﷺ is, by agreement, his descendant twenty generations later. His descendants learned Arabic from the Qahtani tribes and are called al-Arab al-Musta'riba, "the Arabs who learned Arabic." By Ibn al-Kalbi's report his son Ma'ad lived at the time of Isa AS.
The Prophet ﷺ is, without difference of scholarly opinion, the 20th-generation descendant of Adnan.
