Abu Hurayrah RA, Abd al-Rahman ibn Sakhr, was of the tribe of Daws in Yemen, who accepted Islam through Tufayl ibn Amr RA and reached the Prophet ﷺ at Khaybar in 7 AH. In only about three years of companionship he became the greatest narrator of hadith, with more than 5,500 reports, and is called the Preserver of the Sunnah; he explained that he stayed at the Prophet ﷺ's side while others were busy in the market and on their farms. He lived among the People of the Suffa in poverty and hunger, and the Prophet ﷺ's supplication brought his mother to Islam. He fought at Mu'tah and joined Ali RA in the proclamations at Mina in 9 AH.
