Abu Bara Amir ibn Malik was a famous chieftain of Najd who visited Madinah in 4 AH and, impressed by Islam though hesitant to accept it, asked the Prophet ﷺ to send Companions to teach the people of Najd under his protection. He was an honest man and meant his guarantee, but the chieftain Amir ibn al-Tufayl, by one report his nephew, broke it, and the seventy Companions were massacred at Bir Ma'una.
