Abd Yalil ibn Amr was one of three brothers, with Mas'ud and Habib, who jointly led Thaqif, the main tribe of Ta'if. When the Prophet ﷺ came to Ta'if before the Hijrah to invite them to Islam, all three rejected him with mockery, though they seem to have kept his request not to tell the Quraysh of the visit. The Prophet ﷺ later told Aisha RA that this was the worst treatment he ever received from his people.
