“O you who believe, fulfill your covenant.”
The post recounts a person honoring a prior oath to the Quraysh even at Badr's cost -- the same theme of fulfilling contracts that opens this ayah ("O you who believe, fulfill all contracts").
الْيَوْمَ أَكْمَلْتُ لَكُمْ دِينَكُمْ وَأَتْمَمْتُ عَلَيْكُمْ نِعْمَتِي وَرَضِيتُ لَكُمُ الْإِسْلَامَ دِينًا
“This day, I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as religion.”
Revealed to the Prophet ﷺ while he stood on the Plains of Arafah during this sermon.
“If you are in a state of janaba, then take a full bath.”
The command to perform ghusl after janaba, which Amr's ijtihad reinterpreted in light of the danger to his life.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱذْكُرُوا۟ نِعْمَتَ ٱللَّهِ عَلَيْكُمْ إِذْ هَمَّ قَوْمٌ أَن يَبْسُطُوٓا۟ إِلَيْكُمْ أَيْدِيَهُمْ فَكَفَّ أَيْدِيَهُمْ عَنكُمْ
“Remember the blessings of Allah on you — when a group among you desired to reach you to kill you. Allah stopped their hands from reaching you.”
Ibn Abbas identified this verse as referring to the Banu Nadir's plot to kill the Prophet ﷺ.
يَـٰٓأَيُّهَا ٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ لَا تَتَّخِذُوا۟ ٱلْيَهُودَ وَٱلنَّصَـٰرَىٰٓ أَوْلِيَآءَ ۘ بَعْضُهُمْ أَوْلِيَآءُ بَعْضٍۢ ۚ وَمَن يَتَوَلَّهُم مِّنكُمْ فَإِنَّهُۥ مِنْهُمْ ۗ إِنَّ ٱللَّهَ لَا يَهْدِى ٱلْقَوْمَ ٱلظَّـٰلِمِينَ
“O believers! Take neither Jews nor Christians as awliya — they are awliya of each other. Whoever does so will be counted as one of them. Surely, Allah does not guide the wrongdoing people.”
This ayah (Q5:51, on not taking allies who betray the community's trust) reflects the concern behind expelling Banu Qaynuqa for their treachery, described at this event.
فَتَرَى ٱلَّذِينَ فِى قُلُوبِهِم مَّرَضٌۭ يُسَـٰرِعُونَ فِيهِمْ يَقُولُونَ نَخْشَىٰٓ أَن تُصِيبَنَا دَآئِرَةٌۭ ۚ فَعَسَى ٱللَّهُ أَن يَأْتِىَ بِٱلْفَتْحِ أَوْ أَمْرٍۢ مِّنْ عِندِهِۦ فَيُصْبِحُوا۟ عَلَىٰ مَآ أَسَرُّوا۟ فِىٓ أَنفُسِهِمْ نَـٰدِمِينَ
“You see those with sickness in their hearts racing for their guardianship, saying [in justification], "We fear a turn of fortune will strike us." But perhaps Allah will bring about [your] victory or another favor by His command, and they will regret what they have hidden in their hearts.”

إِنَّمَا وَلِيُّكُمُ ٱللَّهُ وَرَسُولُهُۥ وَٱلَّذِينَ ءَامَنُوا۟ ٱلَّذِينَ يُقِيمُونَ ٱلصَّلَوٰةَ وَيُؤْتُونَ ٱلزَّكَوٰةَ وَهُمْ رَٰكِعُونَ
“Your only guardians are Allah, His Messenger, and fellow believers — who establish prayer and pay zakat with humility.”

“Whoever allies themselves with Allah, His Messenger, and fellow believers, then it is certainly Allah's party that will prevail.”

وَلَتَجِدَنَّ أَقْرَبَهُم مَّوَدَّةً لِّلَّذِينَ آمَنُوا الَّذِينَ قَالُوا إِنَّا نَصَارَىٰ ۚ ذَٰلِكَ بِأَنَّ مِنْهُمْ قِسِّيسِينَ وَرُهْبَانًا وَأَنَّهُمْ لَا يَسْتَكْبِرُونَ
“And you will find the nearest of them in affection to the Believers (Muslims) those who say, "We are Christians." That is because among them are priests and monks and because they are not arrogant.”
Cited in the lecture to explain why Abyssinia -- a Christian land -- was chosen as a refuge for the emigrants.
“Allah will not call you to account for your thoughtless oaths, but He will hold you accountable for deliberate oaths.”
Cited to explain why the Prophet ﷺ's oath not to give Abu Musa al-Ash'ari RA camels did not bind him once funds arrived.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِنَّمَا الْخَمْرُ وَالْمَيْسِرُ وَالْأَنصَابُ وَالْأَزْلَامُ رِجْسٌ مِّنْ عَمَلِ الشَّيْطَانِ فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ لَعَلَّكُمْ تُفْلِحُونَ
“O believers! Intoxicants, gambling, idols, and drawing lots for decisions, are all evil of satan's handiwork. So shun them so you may be successful”
The final, complete prohibition of alcohol (phase 3), revealed during the siege of Banu Nadir.
“It is lawful for you to hunt and eat seafood, as a provision for you and for travelers.”
Cited by the Prophet ﷺ's teaching to explain the permissibility of seafood.
مَا جَعَلَ اللَّهُ مِنْ بَحِيرَةٍ وَلا سَائِبَةٍ وَلا وَصِيلَةٍ وَلا حَامٍ
“It was not Allah who instituted (superstitions like those of) a slit-ear she-camel or a she-camel let loose for free pasture or idol sacrifices for twin-births in animals or stallion-camels freed from work.”
This ayah (Q5:103) lists the exact superstitious practices -- the slit-ear camel, the baheera, sa'iba, waseela, hami -- that classical sources (e.g. Sahih Muslim's hadith on Amr ibn Luhay) attribute to this same man introducing them to Arabia.
“If You punish them, they are Your servants, but if You forgive them, You are the Almighty, the All-Wise.”
The post directly quotes Isa (AS)'s prayer as preserved in this ayah (Q5:118) -- "If You punish them, they are Your servants, but if You forgive them, You are the Almighty, the All-Wise."
