This unnamed young man of Banu Jadhimah was taken prisoner in 8 AH, when Khalid ibn al-Walid RA mistakenly attacked his tribe. Khalid executed the prisoners, an error of judgment for which he was criticized and for which compensation was paid. According to Ibn Ishaq, before his execution the young man begged one of the Companions to take him to where the women were held. There he spoke to his betrothed and recited a love poem for her, and she wept and answered him with a poem of her own. When he was executed, she took him in her arms, and he died there. When the Prophet ﷺ heard the story, his anger grew greater still, and he asked whether there had been no one with mercy in his heart to stop Khalid.
