Yasar was an Abyssinian slave who was captured when the Muslims reached Qarqarat al-Kudr in 2 AH and the rest of the enemy fled. After some time among the Muslims, he saw how they lived and accepted Islam. The Companion who had captured him gave him to the Prophet ﷺ. The Prophet ﷺ never kept a male slave, so he set Yasar free, but Yasar chose to remain with him and became one of his servants.
