Waqid ibn Abdillah al-Tamimi was an elderly archer in the Muslim army at Mu'tah in 8 AH. After Khalid ibn al-Walid RA took command, he positioned the archers to halt the Roman advance. According to Ibn Ishaq, Waqid's arms were still strong but his eyesight had grown weak with age. He told two companions, "Lift me on top of your shield and I will shoot as hard as I can. You be my eyes." They directed his aim, this way and that, while he loosed his arrows.
