This unnamed Companion was digging the trench around Madinah before the Battle of Khandaq in 5 AH when the diggers struck a boulder lying on the line the Prophet ﷺ had marked out. One after another they tried to break it and failed. Some suggested digging around it, but this Companion said, "No, until we ask the Prophet ﷺ. Because he is the one who showed us this line." When they asked him, the Prophet ﷺ took the axe, went down into the trench and struck the rock, saying "Bismillah, Allahu Akbar." With each of three blows part of the rock crumbled, and he announced that he had been shown that Allah had given him the keys to al-Sham and other lands.
