This unnamed Companion was among those who pledged allegiance to the Prophet ﷺ under a tree at Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH, the Bay'at al-Ridwan. When the Muslims returned the following year to perform their Umrah, the Companions went looking for the tree. He narrated, in Sahih al-Bukhari, "When we got there, we tried to find the tree, but no two of us could agree which tree it was." The trees all looked alike, and most of the Companions could not identify it. Later, when people began to venerate a tree they believed was the one, Sa'id ibn al-Musayyib pointed out that even the Companions who took the pledge could not tell which tree it had been.
