This unnamed Bedouin traveled with the Muslims toward Hudaybiyyah in 6 AH. As the army was about to cross a valley, the Prophet ﷺ announced that everyone who passed through it would have all their sins forgiven, except the man with the red camel. The Companions wondered who he meant, until they heard a man at the back calling out that he had lost a red camel. They urged him to come to the Prophet ﷺ in the hope of being included in the forgiveness. He answered, "Searching for my camel is more beloved to me than to go to your Companion to have my sins forgiven." His reply revealed the hypocrisy in his heart, and showed that not everyone who traveled with the Companions was truly one of them.
