This unnamed man of the Ansar was a neighbor of Umar ibn al-Khattab RA in Madinah. At the time of the marital dispute between the Prophet ﷺ and his wives, the Muslims were also on alert against a possible attack by the Ghassanids. One night after Isha, he knocked on Umar's door. Umar rushed out and asked whether the Ghassanids had attacked. His neighbor answered, "No, something worse has happened! The Prophet ﷺ has divorced his wives!" To him a personal grief of the Prophet ﷺ was worse than war. As soon as Fajr was prayed, Umar hurried to find out, and learned that the Prophet ﷺ had not in fact divorced his wives but had withdrawn from them for a month.
