Ulba ibn Zayd RA was a Companion who had nothing to give when the Prophet ﷺ called for donations to equip the army for Tabuk in 9 AH. After Allah revealed verses defending a poor Companion whom the hypocrites had mocked for donating a single handful of dates, Ulba stood up and said, "Ya Rasulullah, I have no money to give you, but I give you my honor and dignity, that in the Way of Allah, I will defend you against those people who are irritating you," meaning the hypocrites. The Prophet ﷺ said, "I have accepted your charity." He was counted among the sincere believers who could not join the expedition, of whom the Prophet ﷺ said at Tabuk that they shared the army's reward at every step even while they remained in Madinah.
