صفوان بن المعطل
Safwan ibn al-Mu'attal al-Sulami RA was a noble Companion best known for his role in the slander against Aisha RA. Trailing behind the army on the return from Banu al-Mustaliq in 5 AH, he found Aisha RA left behind and led her camel back to the army without a word, and the hypocrites made it a slander. The Prophet ﷺ said he knew nothing but good of him, and Safwan, enraged, struck Hassan ibn Thabit RA with the flat of his sword for repeating the rumour. He died a martyr in Armenia during the caliphate of Umar RA.
