Rayhana bint Zayd was a woman of Banu Qurayza who came into the possession of the Prophet ﷺ after the tribe's surrender in 5 AH. He invited her to Islam, but she refused. Eventually he decided to pass her on to someone else, and he gave her a long time to decide her own course. When she realized he meant to let her go, she accepted Islam, because she wished to stay with the Prophet ﷺ for the care and gentleness he had shown her. After she became Muslim, he told her, "I will free you and marry you. And your freedom will be the mahr."
The books of seerah differ on what followed. Many say she chose to remain his milk al-yamin rather than become his wife, saying, "This is better for me and you." A small minority say she accepted the offer and became his wife.
