Qahtan is considered the father of the Qahtani Arabs, al-Arab al-Ariba or "original Arabs," of southern Arabia, among them the kingdoms of Saba' and Himyar, the tribe of Jurhum, and the Aws and Khazraj of Madinah. His son Ya'rab is said to have given the Arabs their name. Little is known of him: most say he descended from Sam son of Nuh AS, a minority from Ibrahim AS or Hud AS, and he lived long before Adnan. The union of Qahtani Ansar and Adnani Muhajirun in Madinah is seen as a sign of Islam overcoming tribalism.
