Mukhayriq

Mukhayriq was a Jew of Madinah who honored the Constitution of Madinah, which bound its communities to defend the city together. When the Quraysh marched on Madinah in 3 AH, he tried to rouse his people to help the Muslims: "You know that it is our duty to help Muhammad ﷺ!" They refused because it was the Sabbath. Irritated, he told them, "May you have no Sabbath after this!" He took up his armor and sword and said, "If I die, my property will go to Muhammad ﷺ." Then he went to the battlefield of Uhud, fought bravely, and was killed defending the Muslims. The Prophet ﷺ is reported to have said, "Mukhayriq is the best of the Jews" (Ibn Ishaq).
