Muawiyah ibn Haydah RA was a man from Yemen who saw the Prophet ﷺ only once in his life, as a member of one of the delegations that came to Madinah in the Year of Delegations. He asked, "O Messenger of Allah ﷺ, what is allowed to show of our awrah, and what is not allowed to show?" The Prophet ﷺ said, "Cover your awrah from everyone other than your spouse." Muawiyah asked, "What if I am alone?" The Prophet ﷺ replied, "There is more right upon Allah that you be shy of Him." It is the only hadith that speaks explicitly about the awrah, and that it came from a one-time visitor shows how eager the delegates were to learn fiqh and aqidah.
