This unnamed man was the messenger the Prophet ﷺ sent to Ka'b ibn Malik RA during the boycott of the three Companions who had stayed behind from Tabuk in 9 AH without excuse and told the truth about it. Forty of the fifty days had passed with no revelation when he came to Ka'b and said, "Verily, the Prophet ﷺ has commanded you to remain separate from your wife." Ka'b at once asked whether he should divorce her. The messenger replied, "No, but only remain separate from her and do not come near her." The same command went to the other two Companions, and Ka'b sent his wife to her family until Allah decided his case.
