Ma'bad al-Khuza'i was a nobleman of the tribe of Khuza'a who, though not yet a Muslim at the time of Uhud, sympathized with the Muslims. After the battle in 3 AH he came to Madinah to offer the Prophet ﷺ his condolences. On his way home he met Abu Sufyan, who was debating whether to turn back and finish off the Muslims, and warned him that they were fuming for vengeance and advised him to flee. The Quraysh went home. He acted entirely on his own, while the Prophet ﷺ was marching out to Hamra al-Asad.
