This unnamed man was one of the leaders of Banu Qaynuqa, the largest Jewish tribe of Madinah, with around seven hundred fighting men and the city's biggest market. After Badr in 2 AH, as tension grew, the Prophet ﷺ went to their market, gathered the tribe, admonished them about their conduct, and reminded them of the Constitution of Madinah's pledge of mutual defense. This man stood and told the Prophet ﷺ to his face, "O Muhammad ﷺ, don't be fooled by your recent victory. You fought a bunch of nobodies. Had you really been fighting men, men like us, you would have seen what the result would have been." Soon afterward an incident in the tribe's market, involving an Ansari woman, led to the siege and expulsion of Banu Qaynuqa.
