These unnamed men represented the people of Khaybar after the Muslims took the town in 7 AH. The Prophet ﷺ had first intended to expel them, but they argued, "Ya Aba al-Qasim, your people do not know how to operate or mend these lands. We are people who know Khaybar inside out. So why don't we agree to a percentage?" After much negotiation the terms were set: the people of Khaybar would give half of their produce to the Muslims, bear all the labor and costs themselves, and stay only for as long as the Muslims wished. It was a wise arrangement, since the Muslims had neither the experience nor the manpower to farm Khaybar's vast date groves.
