Jurayj ibn Mina

Jurayj ibn Mina, the Muqawqis, was the Byzantine governor of Egypt at the time of the Prophet ﷺ, identified with Cyrus of Alexandria, a Melkite Christian patriarch and the last Byzantine prefect before the Muslim conquest. When the Prophet ﷺ's letter reached him, probably around 7 or 8 AH, he did not accept Islam but answered politely with lavish gifts, including the sisters Maria and Sirin, the servant Ma'boor and the donkey Duldul. The Prophet ﷺ remarked that his politeness had preserved his rule, but that it would not endure, and Amr ibn al-As later conquered Egypt.
