Jamil ibn Ma'mar al-Jumahi was known in Makkah as the one man who could never keep a secret. After Umar ibn al-Khattab accepted Islam, around six years before the Hijrah, he wanted his conversion known at once, and asked who was the most notorious gossip in Makkah. He was told it was Jamil. Umar went to him and said, "Do you know I have a secret? I have just accepted Islam and I am now following the religion of Muhammad ﷺ!" Jamil leapt up, barely grabbing a garment to cover himself, and rushed out to be the first to spread the news. Before he even reached the Ka'bah he was shouting through the streets, "O people of Makkah! O Quraysh! Umar ibn al-Khattab qad saba'a!", using the pagans' word for someone who had abandoned the idols. Umar corrected him: "No. Aslamtu," "I have accepted Islam."
