This unnamed man was one of the hypocrites on the return march from Tabuk in 9 AH who mocked the Prophet ﷺ's promise of conquering Rome and Persia and sneered at the Qur'an's reciters as cowards. A Companion reported him, and as he ran up to excuse himself, the Prophet ﷺ recited the revelation quoting his claim that they were only joking. He was dragged along clinging to the stirrup while the Prophet ﷺ repeated, "Make no excuses. You have committed kufr after your iman."
