Hanzala ibn Abi Amir RA

Hanzala ibn Abi Amir RA was a Companion of the Ansar and the son of Abu Amir al-Rahib, who had turned against Islam and fought with the Quraysh at Uhud. Hanzala had married the night before the Battle of Uhud in 3 AH. In the morning the call to battle came before he had time to perform ghusl, and he went out to fight as he was.

In the battle he fought his way to Abu Sufyan ibn Harb and was about to kill him when a spear struck him and he was killed. After the battle the Prophet ﷺ said, "I saw the angels washing the body of Hanzala as they took him up." Having had no time to wash before he died a martyr, he received a far better ghusl from the angels, and he is remembered as the one washed by the angels.
